Creating Pine Bark for Bonsai soil mix can be problematic. I have been working on how to create my own correctly sized Pine Bark for Bonsai soil mix. It can be purchased online by it is rather expensive. In the first video. It is fairly cheap to purchase bulk pine bark from a local nursery or local big box store. However, it still has to be processed down to the correct size.
In my first video on Pine Bark for Bonsai soil, I used an antique manual ice crusher. It worked fairly well by there was a lot of manual cranking and the process was very hard on the ice crusher.
In this second video, I am using a sausage grinder to make pine bark for bonsai soil. Pine bark is easy to obtain from a nursery or a big box store. However, it has to be prepared for use in a Bonsai soil mix. I like to use bark as it breaks down and gives the tree some nutrients. It is a lot cheaper to produce your own soil than it is to buy it commercially. After the Pine Bark for Bonsai Soil is ground, it has to be screened to get rid of the fines. If these small particles are left in the mix, they may damage the bonsai trees’ ability to feed through its’ root.
