0-10-10 Bonsai Fertilizer
Using 0-10-10 bonsai fertilizer on your bonsai tree is critical for dormant periods. Since your bonsai plant lives in a pot, it cannot draw the food and nutrients that it needs to survive and thrive from the ground. It is, therefore, critical that you fertilize your bonsai trees on a regular schedule. For most bonsai trees, there are two types of fertilizer that should be used. During the growing season, you should use a 10-10-10 formula. But in the winter you will need a 0-10-10 formula so your plant’s roots are not destroyed by too much nitrogen.
A state of North Carolina site says that all fertilizers have three bold numbers on the label. This label, known as the fertilizer grade, is a national standard. The first is the amount of nitrogen (N), the second is the amount of phosphate (P2O5) and the third number is the amount of potash (K2O). A 0-10-10 fetilizer has no nitrogen, 10 percent phosphorus, and 10 percent potassium or potash. A bag of 10-10-10 fertilizer contains 10 percent nitrogen, 10 percent phosphate and 10 percent potash.
